Every business starts with a reason, a problem to solve, a moment of clarity, or a vision for something better. For me, it began with a love for design, a curiosity for how buildings perform, and a belief that sustainability should be practical, not complicated.
From Design to Compliance
Straight out of school, I stepped into the world of architecture and construction administration, working for an architect in Sydney before returning home to Maitland. Those early years taught me the language of design, structure, creativity, and the process behind bringing a home to life.
It wasn’t long before I realised where my passion really sat: in the detail.Working with a custom home builder introduced me to the design and approvals process, and I became fascinated by how compliance and creativity could work together rather than compete.
A Decade of Learning the Industry
Over the next ten years, I worked across certification and business management roles. I helped grow multiple teams and gained a deep understanding of both the technical and human sides of the construction industry. It gave me a solid foundation built on experience, problem-solving, and a clear understanding of what makes projects run smoothly.
Then, in 2017, something shifted.I discovered sustainability, not just as an industry requirement but as a mindset. I saw firsthand how small design decisions made early in the process could completely transform the comfort, cost, and performance of a building.
The Birth of Studio Terra
After years working in compliance and sustainability, I wanted to create something different: a consultancy that truly connects technical performance with practical design thinking.
That’s how Studio Terra began.A place where compliance supports creativity, not restricts it.Where architects, builders, and homeowners can find clear, grounded advice to help projects meet performance goals without unnecessary complexity.
At its heart, Studio Terra is about collaboration, early intervention, and nature-led design. We exist to make sustainability achievable, not aspirational.
A Personal Touch
Beyond the reports, spreadsheets, and assessments, there’s a human side to everything we do.I’m a mum to two spirited girls who remind me daily why this work matters: creating comfortable, efficient homes that work with the environment, not against it.
Coffee is my creative fuel (most ideas start with a latte), and when I’m not at my desk, you’ll find me exploring the Hunter with my family or getting lost in floor plans and energy models.
Looking Ahead
Studio Terra continues to grow on the same principles it was founded on:Practical sustainability, early design advice, and clear communication.Because better buildings start with better conversations.
If you’re planning a new project and want to make compliance simple while improving performance, we’d love to help.nt to make compliance simple while improving performance, we’d love to help.
